What Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that allows community service workers to convert their existing experience, skills, and knowledge into a nationally recognised qualification. It’s a way to have your professional expertise validated without having to undergo the full study and training typically required for formal certification.

How Does RPL Work?

The RPL process evaluates the experience you’ve accumulated over your career—whether through paid work, volunteer work, or even life experience—against the competencies required for a specific qualification. If you meet the required standards, you can be awarded a qualification without the need for further study or training.

How Are My Skills Assessed?

1. Match Your Skills

Our team will work with you to determine which qualification best matches your skills and experience. Together, you’ll explore the roles you’ve held and the tasks you’ve performed to identify the most suitable qualification for you.

2. Evidence Submission

You’ll work with your portfolio specialist to compile evidence to showcase your experience, such as your resume, reference letters, work/employment contracts, etc. This evidence will demonstrate the skills you’ve developed throughout your career, making your application as seamless as possible.

3. Compliance Review and Certification

Finally, our team will submit your portfolio to an assessor from one of our partner RTOs, who will review your evidence to ensure it meets compliance standards. Once approved, your skills will be formally recognised with a nationally accredited qualification.
